Dinner at Pastis is a superb example of Vancouver's fine dining scene. They know how to do things right and you don't need an amateur like me to tell you about it. Instead, let me tell you about their weekend brunch. For about the same price as burgers and fries at Sophie's down the street, you get freshly laundered white table cloths, serene atmosphere, perfect eggs benedict (or salade Nicoise, steak et frites, etc.) and staff who are charming and not at all snooty. | Dinner at Pastis is a superb example of Vancouver's fine dining scene. + | I discovered Pastis in the spring of 2006. I hadn't had duck confit since the last time I was in Europe, so to discover it at a local restaurant was a great joy. I've since gone there at least once a month since then, and it is by far my favorite restaurant. They make the best coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon I've had anywhere in Vancouver, and they have daily specials which are all well worth trying. Like Tim said, the staff are lovely and extremely helpful, and if you become a regular (like many people I've brought there now have) they will bend over backwards to make sure your visit is a memorable one. | ||

In retrospect, she should have just circled the whole menu. The Azteca soup, with avocados, tortilla chips, and the perfect amount of spice, is a stand-out favourite. Check out the tortas too. Everything is fresh, tasty, and inexpensive. | ||

This little place was recommended to me by a friend from Mexico, who thoughtfully gave me a menu with circles around the dishes she thought I would enjoy. In retrospect, she should have just circled the whole menu. The Azteca soup, with avocados, tortilla chips, and the perfect amount of spice, is a stand-out favourite. Check out the tortas too. Everything is fresh, tasty, and inexpensive.
Salsa & Agave is small, seating maybe 12 people max, so don't expect to get a table for a large group. Unfortunately, they don't have a liquor license, so you can't enjoy a cold cerveza with your tacos.
